Continue ShoppingEpoxy resin tables have become a design favourite — they combine natural wood with modern art, turning live-edge slabs into stunning statement pieces. But if you’ve spent any time browsing marketplaces or social media, you’ve likely seen the ugly side: epoxy tables that crack, separate, or yellow over time.
So, what’s going wrong? The answer often lies in rushed craftsmanship, poor material preparation, and the wrong balance between resin and wood.
At TableCo.ca, we’ve worked with epoxy for years — and we’ve seen firsthand how small mistakes can turn a beautiful piece into a cracked disappointment.
Improper Wood Drying
Wood naturally expands and contracts as humidity changes. If a wood isn’t properly dried before the pour, it will continue to move after the epoxy hardens — causing stress cracks and separation.
At TableCo.ca, we only use kiln-dried tops, ensuring stable moisture content before any resin work begins.
Pouring Too Much Epoxy at Once
Epoxy heats up as it cures. Pouring too thick a layer traps that heat, which can lead to bubbling, warping, or cracking. Professional builders pour in controlled layers, letting each cure properly before moving on.
Temperature Fluctuations During Curing
Epoxy is sensitive to temperature and humidity. If your workspace isn’t climate-controlled, the resin may expand unevenly or harden too fast — both of which can cause cracks later.
Low-Quality Resin or Incorrect Ratios
Not all epoxy resins are created equal. Cheaper resins can become brittle over time, especially under UV light or heat. Using the wrong mix ratio can also prevent full curing, leading to weak bonds that fail under stress.
Creating a durable, high-quality epoxy table isn’t about shortcuts — it’s about process and patience.
Here’s what ensures long-lasting results:
Start with stable, kiln-dried slabs.
Use deep-pour epoxy designed for thick applications.
Cure in a temperature-controlled space between 20–25°C (68–77°F).
Allow proper curing time — rushing the process always leads to issues.
Seal the wood first to prevent air bubbles from rising during the pour.
Once your epoxy table is complete, proper care keeps it looking new:
Avoid direct sunlight for long periods (UV can yellow epoxy).
Use a soft microfiber cloth for cleaning.
Never use harsh chemicals or alcohol-based cleaners.
With minimal care, a well-made epoxy table can last decades — and only get more beautiful with age.
Epoxy tables are a stunning fusion of nature and design, but their success depends entirely on craftsmanship. When built the right way, they don’t just look good — they endure.
At TableCo.ca, we believe every slab deserves the right process. That’s why we focus on expert preparation, professional materials, and a patient hand. Because in the world of custom tables, quality isn’t rushed — it’s crafted.
